Dot SG Back Ground Information

DOT SG Domains are the Top Level Domains of Singapore. These are domains ending with
SG. The DOT SG Domains of interest to the public are Dot.Com.SG, Dot.Org.SG, Dot.SG
and Per.SG.
SG Domains are not freely registered like for eg
International Top Level Domains. There are rules which differ according to which extensions you are
registering for.
Specific Rules for SG Domains
1.
DOT SG is the least restrictive for registration. Anyone can apply for Dot SG Domains.
However applicants who are not resident in Singapore must appoint a local agent having a valid
Singapore postal address as the Administrative Contact for the domain name, who
shall also be authorized to receive all communications from SGNIC relating to the
application.

DOT COM.SG is for commercial entities registered in Singapore. A foreign
company can only register such a domain name if it appoints a locally registered entity
as its administrative contact. The foreign Registrant is required to submit a duly authorised
letter to confirm the appointment of the locally registered entity.
3.
DOT ORG.SG is for non profit organisations which are either registered or are
about to be registered with the Registry of Societies such as community clubs,
churches, organisations, embassies and any other organisations not classified
elsewhere.
4.
DOT PER.SG can only be registered by Singaporeans or Permanent Residents age 21
and above. PER.SG usage can only be for non commercial activities.
Basic Rules for SG Domains
1. The
allowable character set includes the letters 'a' to 'z', the
numbers '0' to '9' and hyphen '-'.
2. No domain
may start with or end with hyphen '-'.
3. The
minimum number of characters is 2 while the maximum is 63.
4. Upper or lower cases does not
make any difference in domain registrations.
