Dot
com/net/org/biz/info/name are considered International Top Level
Domains or TLD in short. There is no geographical or licensing
requirements to register such domains. They are also known as
generic Top Level Domains gTLDs. As there are no restrictions on
their registrations, most of these domains are already taken up.
A rough check
reveals, nearly all if not all dictionary words are already registered
for the Dot Com TLD. This is one of the reasons why some users
opt for Country TLDs which are more restrictive but are more easily
available if you meet their registration criteria.
There are some rules
involved in the registration of these domains
1. The
allowable character set includes the letters 'a' to 'z', the
numbers '0' to '9' and hyphen '-'.
2. No domain
may start with or end with hyphen '-'.
3. The
minimum number of characters is 2 while the maximum is 63.
4. Upper or lower cases does not
make any difference in domain registrations.
For those looking for
International TLDs but finding Dot Com taken try adding the hyphen '-' to separate your domain
wordings if possible or try getting a Dot Net or Dot Biz instead.
Taking for example if you want to take 8toinfinity.com, it is already taken up by our company, you can try 8-to-infinity.com. But do check on the copyright laws on such a move first. If in doubt, ask your lawyer or local attorney.
A good domain name is a worthy investment. From observations, it can be seen that Dot Coms are the most sought after; with some premium domain names going for millions of dollars.
8 to Infinity provides
full domain registration under your name and will provide you full
access username and password to your Top Level International Domain so
as to ensure that you are the owner of the domain. We find that
some hosting companies take possession of the ownership of their
clients' domains. This is something we totally disagree upon.
